Flanigan's Arch Ashdown Gorge Trail
This route follows Coal Creek upstream for about 1.4 miles beyond the old dam site to reach the arch, eventually connecting with the northern end of Cedar Breaks National Monument. Many hikers complete it as a shuttle hike, beginning near 10,000 feet in elevation and descending to around 7,000 feet.

Dixie National Forest, Utah’s largest national forest, spans nearly two million acres across southern Utah and borders Scenic Byway 12 through the Powell, Escalante, and Teasdale ranger districts. The forest provides much of the byway’s stunning alpine scenery, including the 11,322-foot summit of Blue Bell Knoll on Boulder Mountain, and offers abundant recreation such as hiking, biking, camping, fishing, horseback riding, ATV use, snowmobiling, and more.

The Bristlecone Pine trail is an easy loop trail that provides great views of the Virgin River and Zion National Park while winding through ancient Bristlecone Pine trees. It is thought that the bristlecone pine trees are the oldest living organism on earth!

Although only 6 miles long, the Cedar Breaks Scenic Byway is filled with color, from the flowered meadows of the Dixie National Forest to the multi-colored rock amphitheatres of Cedar Breaks National Monument.

A prehistoric volcanic eruption once blocked the eastern end of what is now the lake, part of a period when volcanic activity was common across the plateau. Today, forests of pine and aspen grow from the ancient lava flows, and the overlook provides beautiful views of the lake’s turquoise waters set within the surrounding mountain valley.

The Duck Creek Visitor Center (elev. 8600 ft.) is nestled in a beautiful grove of Spruce and Aspen trees. The visitor center is staffed by friendly volunteers eager to share their years of local experience. Information is available on hiking, biking, fishing, camping, off highway vehicles, and many other area attractions. Many interpertive items are available such as maps, post cards, nature books, clothing and Smoky Bear memorabilia.

Turn right onto the improved Strawberry Point Road and continue for seven miles to reach a scenic overlook of the Virgin River Rim.

The Mount Carmel Scenic Byway ascends through the Grand Staircase of vermillion, white and pink cliffs and provides access to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, providing scenic views of Zion National Park and the green fields and orchards of Long Valley.
